The Best TSP fund for 2022 (and why)

With all the crazy issues like gas prices, interest rates going up, housing out of control, and stock market instability, which TSP fund is right for this year?

I give my answer, and explain why it is kind of a trick question.

I talk about which TSP fund is the best fund to put your money in during 2022. I also explain how the fund I share is actually the best fund no matter what year it is.

This fund is the best place to put your money for long term growth, so it’s the same no matter what year it is, or what crazy thing is happening in the world, finance markets, or real estate.

I explain the dangers of timing the market and how wall street and professional investors will make you underperform the market over the long term….(read more)

Just rolled over 13k into my Roth.

It really is amazing to me how worthless the I Fund has been the last decade. A lot of risk for very little return. That. fund has been waste of time for me.

Hey man I had a quick question. I am 23 years old and wondering what to invest in. The 120 rule would put me at 97% invested in stocks. I’m scared to move everything to stocks but you say to do this. Do you think it’s a good idea to do C Fund- 60%, S Fund- 20%, and maybe put the remaining 20% into a Lifecycle fund based on my retirement? Or put that leftover 20% into something else? Please let me know. Thank you.

So why not just invest in L Funds?

Outstanding video! This was my first time tuning in.

Excellent advice. I was reallocating my TSP when I saw the title for this video. I'm following your advice. At one point I was changing my allocations years ago and achieved a 21% return on investment for several quarters. I used the I fund and C fund.

I have my money allocated 70% S and 30% C. Should I switch these allocations?

I’m in the military for 4 years now and I’m 27 years old . I currently have 5% in Roth . What is the best option /fund to invest into ?

Great suggestion! I’m in 100 percent C funds

Great information – but, it's like one unending sentence. I HAVE to pause & take a breath every now & then…. whew!

Great information. Thank you for taking the time to educate. I'm 56 years old and plan to work up until 2030ish. I have been investing in the L2040 but am considering the C-fund as you suggest for my future investments although I know it is riskier, I like the idea of buying right now while everything is down. Should I move my current invested funds out of L2040 into the C-fund? I know not to move it into the G-fund so I don't "lock" my losses, but what about moving into the C-fund?

  12. Paulywog05

Do you have any info or recommendations on Roth TSP? Should I be putting a percentage in that also? Or should I just put a bigger percentage in my reg TSP? Currently I’m not maxing out my regular TSP.

What is the allocation if I am retiring in 1 u

  14. JMJK

I so appreciate you for this. I’ve been very clueless and somewhat careless about my finance especially when it comes to TSP but now as I’m getting older and closer to retirement, I start to panic. I had my fund in G for years and then eventually after someone advised, I moved it to 85% L2040 and 15%G a few years ago. I’m 36 and have 6 years left in the service. After watching your video I thinking about moving it again, still I’m low risk tolerance but for the first time ever I want to put 60% C, 20% S, 10 % F, 10% G. I also just increased my contribution from 10% to a total of 30% from my base pay today! (5% traditional and 25% Roth). I’m hoping I’m not doing something wrong here. Pretty nervous about that jump but I’m single with no kids so I want to make a difference for my retirement. Can you please provide your opinion on this change?

What are the recommendations for current retirees in their 70’s who are in tsp? Thanks!

  16. Alex Soubannarath

Best fund is G fund right now. Everything is crashing soon. Just remember that you have 2 interfund transfers a month. During Covid crash I made 65% return in from March 2020 to March 2021

  17. Joseph Kelleher

The most important factor in determining asset allocation is a persons risk tolerance.

  18. Danny Walker

The G Fund is backed by a special 4 year treasury only available to the TSP. My strategy would be a mix of the C and G Fund. I would say 50-50 if you have over 10 years until retirement as retirement nears you should gradually move to 90G and 10C. That would be my retirement mix.

  19. ahmed bashir

Thanks,You make me feel comfortable now because just 3 days before I change my investment strategy from L2050 to 70Cfund and 30 Sfund planing for retirement at 2044 -2050 I decided to take the risk thanks again

  20. Linda Field

C fund is the only fund I have invested in for the past 10 years.

  21. Brandon Silva

Do I put contribution allocations and inter fund transfer to the C fund? What’s the difference between allocation and fund trasnfer

  22. Richard Allen

Wall street money managers are called Brokers, because they are broker than you. Best line I ever read in a book on investing. They make their money thru investing fees.

  23. Dan Rhodes

So after watching this, I will confidently leave my money 60%C and 40%S. However, do you time your contributions at all? I feel like there is an impending crash and I’m wondering if I should contribute less now and more after the crash or just leave it alone? I have 7 years left till my 20 but may push to 30 if CWO5 seems within my grasp.

  24. Benedict Tiberius Cato

I used to let my investment sit in an L fund. Now I have 50-50 in C and G. Is that stupid?

  25. Matt S

    50% C and 50% S here. Holding steady.

  26. Mr. Chambers

I've been 100% in the C fund for 2 years now with 12 years until retirement. I'm in it for the long run

  27. Videogame Vegas

    Rich on Money,

Great information! I'm currently most in the c fund in TSP with the rest trickling into the other funds. I used to be in one of the L funds, but wanted to go a bit more aggressive. I'm using an "L-ish" type of strategy, where once a year, I move a small increment from my higher risk allocations into the lower risk funds G and F. My question is, what do you think about the L funds and is doing a more aggressive version of that, without timing the market and sticking to the plan, a good strategy?

    Thank you for your time

  29. jen zanoni

What rate of return would I be looking at in the next ten years in C fund ?

  30. jen zanoni

So c fund for new money and old in the account ?

  31. Dave O

My colleague regularly invested and contributed 100% in the C Fund for 20 years (and never wavered in market meltdowns). Now he has 2 million dollars amassed for retirement! I'm a huge fan of the C Fund.
