Which means they are late to the game BUT its a good time to jump in. Boston Dynamics defined the segment and set the table. Its possible Hyundai will productize the research. (Note Honda is pretty far along too.) Tesla is making an ecosystem beyond the robot but it is no slouch.
Its interesting – the rumored Apple car is to be a manufacturing partnership with Hyundai. On the other rumor front Foxconn – a traditional Apple manufacturing partner – has signalled its intention to build an EV for anyone who wants to partner. (They have supply chain supremacy.)
30+ years of development vs 1 year. Two totally different market segments. One of those is a profitable company, the other a money pit with an uncertain path to profitability. One of them will eventually have running parkour capable murder robots, the other will do menial chores.

Those other robots don’t have an onboard computer, are crazy expensive, and can’t navigate in the real world. The Tesla Bot does have its own onboard computer and is designed to be cheap and mass produced. It’s like the difference between watching a video and having a video game engine render something in real-time.

Boston Dynamics has never been successful at making a commercial product.
