The French Revolution was a period of political and social upheaval in France that lasted from 1789 to 1799. It was a period of great change and upheaval, with the French people overthrowing the monarchy, establishing a republic, and ultimately creating a new form of government.

The revolution was sparked by a number of grievances against the French monarchy, including high taxes, lack of representation in the government, and the unequal distribution of wealth. In addition, the people of France were inspired by the American Revolution and the ideas of the Enlightenment.

In 1789, the Estates-General, a legislative body made up of representatives from the three estates (clergy, nobility, and commoners), was called to address the grievances of the people. After a series of negotiations and debates, the National Assembly was formed, which declared that all citizens were equal before the law.

The National Assembly also passed a number of reforms, including the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, which established the principles of liberty, equality, and fraternity. These reforms were seen as a threat to the monarchy, and in response, King Louis XVI attempted to dissolve the National Assembly. This led to the storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, which is seen as the beginning of the French Revolution.

The French Revolution was marked by a number of significant events, including the overthrow of the monarchy, the establishment of the Republic, the Reign of Terror, and the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. In the end, the French Revolution resulted in the creation of a new form of government and a new constitution, which established a constitutional monarchy.
