What are benefits of Roth TSP vs Traditional TSP as I am over 62

Am I able to roll the Roth portion of my TSP "only" into my ROTH IRA upon retirement to avoid the forced RMDs, while letting my Traditional TSP remain?

Hello. Question. If you just started your Roth IRA account 1 years ago, but your Roth TSP is already over 5 years old; if you roll over your Roth TSP to your Roth IRA how is it gonna effect it in terms of the 5 year rule?

Great video. I did not know about that 5 year rule. Much appreciation!

Hello Hello Dallen – You always provide a lot of great info on your videos – thanks! There is one nuance where I am still unclear on Roth; contribution limits. I recognize this video is a year old and the numbers have increased, but for the sake of conversation, if I am over 50 and contribute the maximum of 26,000 (19,500 + 6,500) between a traditional TSP and Roth TSP, can I contribute an additional 7,000 to a Roth IRA?? Both Roth TSP and Roth IRA use the term "Roth", but since they have different limits, I just wanted to see if it is possible to contribute 26,000 through work and then an additional 7,000 through other means, or if I am limited to the Roth TSP through work.

My question is about limits. I know that the IRS combines the limits of the Traditional and Roth. What about the TSP? Does the TSP limit have anything to do with the Roth limit?

Hey let’s say I made contributions to the Roth TSP but the employers match will go to tTSP even tho I don’t have that account? Or does that just mean that the match of let’s say $5,000 will be the only one taxed not my total contribution and earnings? Also, can I open both Roth IRA and Roth TSP right now even tho I have small income but I know later on it’ll get big? Another thing, let’s say I’m over the limit income for Roth IRA and I’m only 50, can I just stop contributing to that but I’m still getting the money I put right? And if that happens I can just keep contributing to Roth TSP?

Thanks for the video on Tsp and ira. I am contributing the max of $19500 to my tsp and max of $6000 to my Roth IRA in a bank. Can I still put money into Roth tsp? Thanks.

Am I able to max 6000$ into a ROTH IRA and 6000$ into a ROTH TSP? And if so can I move my ROTH TSP to my ROTH IRA later down the road when I leave the military?

Is it just the interest you can’t take out for the 1st 5 years or the principal also?

  13. Andrey Morrison

Great advice. Please keep it up.

I searched your videos and didn't really find an answer to my question but could you do a video explaining how to withdraw from the tsp if you have some money in traditional and some in Roth? The matching is all traditional, correct? Say I want $3000 a month when I retire. How do they calculate how much from traditional and how much from Roth?

Hello… Im 45 years old I have been with the post office for 3 years. I have been contributing to the traditional TSP up until a month ago where I switch it to a ROTH TSP. Which I thought was better until I just watched this video. I just started a ROTH IRA. Is it good to have both a ROTH TSP and a ROTH IRA. Or should I switch back to the traditional TSP since I have the ROTH IRA? Thank you

okay but how do you rollover the roth and traditional into another 401k without tax penalty? does TSP cut you a check or do they rollover directly to another 401k account?

  17. The Dude

I invest in both. Is that good or bad or should I just concentrate in one?

  18. Rico Rodriguez

    Great video, subscribed!

If you rollover traditional tsp to a traditional IRA, pay the taxes on a roth conversion. Then, can you rollover the amount back into the roth tsp after you paid the taxes?

  20. Cesar Rivera

If you are not maxing out the Roth TSP because your income is not that high is it even worth it to invest in a Roth IRA on the outside? I currently contribute 10%. Great content by the way!

  21. metthem88

If rolling a roth tsp over to a roth ira, does the 5 year rule apply to the ira its rolling into?

  22. Carlos

I currently have both Roth accounts. My ultimate goal is to rollover my Roth tsp to my Roth IRA. If I'm not mistaken, I just have to be out of the service to transfer correct?

  23. Michael Reed

I find your videos very helpful. Thank you!Question. If you are at least 55 and leave your money in the traditional TSP when you retire, then you won’t be subject to the 10 percent early withdrawal penalty. Does this also apply to the Roth TSP as well?
