Basically they are creating bagholders. I am Canadian and I understand what they were doing. Ever since they saw what happened last June they knew that they had to spread the losses everywhere, instead of letting the hedgies and cohorts to fall alone. What they were doing for the past year is putting all those bad Chinese and Russian Bonds into the money markets, making it feel like those "saving plans" are diversified and stable.
I made my wife liquidate her RRSP- money market investments- (canadian saving plans) and buy AMC instead.
They will make them baghold for 20 years to finally get their unrealized gains go to the initial invested money.

Interfund transfer to g fund to protect what you have. Keep investing in whatever you want though because it will be at a discount

You can't buy individual stocks within the TSP! It's broken down into C fund (S&P 500), S Fund (Small Cap), I Fund (intermational), G Fund (Gov't securities), F Fund (Fixed). The TSP also has an L Funds based on when you are expecting to retire. So, people spreading FUD that this has something to do with the overall market crashing or a recession is absolutely ridiculous!!!

I moved everything in my tsp to the G fund months ago, which is basically a savings account.
