Thrift Savings Plan Performance Update! | TSP C Fund/S Fund | S&P 500

The Thrift Savings Plan Performance has been the victim of the S&P 500, Dow, and Nasdaq performance over the last two months, with peaks and valleys, cheers and disappointment. With that said, it is important to continue investing in the TSP because the share prices are still low.

Of course, the market movers are going to change the way the TSP funds perform, but the C Fund and S Fund are still going to be your best bet for earning important retirement gains over the coming years.

If you are looking for a safer investing strategy for your TSP portfolio, consider using the Lifecycle Funds. The funds are essentially target date funds for when you plan to retire. The diversification of your portfolio slowly changes as you near your retirement age, thus protecting it from market volatility.

Would a better representation of the total stock market index be 80% C Fund & 20% S Fund? Or if I am looking for higher returns with a longer time horizon the S Fund would be a better choice than the C Fund correct? I am currently 100% C Fund.

I'm in the L2050 how do I transfer some money to the S fund? Also I have a small Roth deposit along side my L2050 how do I make it a total roth?

Currently I have 100% of my money in the C FUND. Something weird that happened to me. I had a 50/50 split C fund and S fund. The market did good on 12/28/2020 and the DOW was up 200 points however I lost like 3 dollars in my S fund. I was like screw and I put everything back into the C Fund 100%.

I’m a vet and I’m considering taking my money out my tsp, but idk if it will negatively affect me with the pandemic. I’m working on a visa to live with my partner in Australia so I’m considering taking the funds out. What do you think of this?

Your way wrong about s fund. Its extended market fund. Mid and small cap. Everything outside s and p 500. Tracks the Dwcpf. Or vanguard vexax

You mentioned the Roth tsp and able to contributed up 19 k / yr. and how it’s different than a Roth IRA. Question: could I utilize that and also do a Roth IRA outside of the tsp?

good info but its very basic.. i was expecting a little more on whether or not to keep contributing to a specific fund or to start allocating to a different one. I know that youre not an advisor but it seemed like the title was misleading…small critique but relevant imo..thanks anyway tho

Very informative video bro, I'm 19 and in leaving for navy bootcamp on june 16th, perfect time to get educated on this stuff I was baffled by how much the tsp let's you contribute compared to a roth ira, I just opened up a vanguard account that only let's me contribute a max limit of $6000 a year, compared to the tsp with the $19500 and the 10% compound interest that's insane, very glad in learning this stuff now so I'll have atleast a million dollars when I retire if not more, sounds like when I get my TSP set up I'll stick with the c fund and maybe put some in the s fund as well

I moved all my money back today to the C and S funds…50/50 %. This week is going to be the best week ever. I'm betting on it.
