Updated Fixes for Low Framerate and Stuttering in Diablo 3

A while ago I made a video that helped a lot of people improve their fps in Diablo 3 and today I wanted to expand on that video with some more general tips and with another D3Prefs.txt tweak. This should help people that are experiencing low framerate and some stuttering during fights.

Diablo 3 is a widely popular action role-playing game developed by Blizzard Entertainment. However, some players have reported experiencing low framerates and stuttering issues while playing the game, which can be frustrating and disruptive to the gameplay experience. In this article, we will discuss some common fixes and solutions to help improve your Diablo 3 gameplay.

1. Update Your Graphics Drivers: One of the first things you should do when experiencing low framerates or stuttering in Diablo 3 is to make sure your graphics drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can cause performance issues in games, so it’s important to regularly check for updates from your graphics card manufacturer’s website.

2. Lower Your Graphic Settings: If updating your drivers doesn’t improve performance, try lowering your graphics settings in the game. You can decrease the resolution, turn off features like anti-aliasing or shadows, or adjust other visual settings to improve performance. This can help reduce the strain on your system and increase framerates.

3. Close Background Programs: Running multiple programs in the background while playing Diablo 3 can cause performance issues. Make sure to close any unnecessary programs or applications before launching the game to free up system resources and improve gameplay performance.

4. Disable Game DVR: If you’re playing Diablo 3 on a Windows 10 computer, you may experience performance issues due to the Game DVR feature. To disable Game DVR, open the Xbox app, go to Settings, then Game DVR, and toggle off the recording feature. This can help alleviate stuttering and improve framerates in the game.

5. Update Windows: Keeping your operating system up to date is crucial for optimal performance in games like Diablo 3. Make sure that your Windows operating system is fully updated to ensure compatibility with the game and to fix any potential performance issues.

6. Check Your Hardware: If you’re still experiencing low framerates or stuttering in Diablo 3, it may be time to check your hardware. Make sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the game and consider upgrading components like your graphics card or RAM if necessary.

By following these tips and tricks, you should be able to improve your gameplay experience in Diablo 3 and enjoy smooth framerates and stutter-free gaming sessions. If you continue to experience performance issues, you may want to reach out to Blizzard Entertainment’s customer support for further assistance. With a little troubleshooting and tweaking, you can get back to slaying demons and exploring the world of Sanctuary in no time.

  4. @Ryuuko3

diablo 3 is fucked when i limit fps to 60 my fps goes to 30/40 and when i limit to 30 i got 15/20 fps WTF

  5. @Dimitri1221XxX

I don't understand the part where you say to put the setting at "1" instead of "0". Saying that "1" turns it off, and "0" doesn't. If so, i should put everything to "1" instead of "0" ?

  6. @ViniciusNegrao_

Hey man thanks for the tip, I just fought a pack of 3 elites and no stuttering, weird thing is, they only happen when fighting elites… So yeah, limiting fps to 50 and turning v-sync back on seems to have solved the issue

  7. @zamy414

    done mate ! 60-67-69 ! Thanks a lot ! 😀

  8. @mONEyCruickshankGaming

My FPS is really high like 150+, but for some reason it randomly feels kinda laggy. I can see it when the monsters move and some effects are going on. They looks choppy and are slow for some reason even tho I am playing at 100fps+. It never goes below 80fps. What the fuck is going on.

  9. @SuperHns

So in order to get 20 framerate more you switch everything on LOW and you call that a fix? Lol

  10. @BestKosmakCZ

Hey guy thanks to you I´m able to play diablo3 on my netbook with pentiumP62000 2,13ghz processor. I love u <3 #no homo

  11. @figrider

Ahahah LMAO, I am so happy but so confused xD…
    Intel Core i3-2330M 2.20 GHz
    4 GB RAM
    AMD Radeon HD 6470M
    (Old and cheap laptop)

Old D3 video settings: Ultra low (everything) = 5 FPS/10 FPS

New config: Ultra low, but windowed mode in full screen (which is glitched and goes to actual full screen) and unlimited FPS (foreground and background), game automatically sets to native resolution and playing at 30 FPS fullscreen on monster fights, I must be dreaming… Thank you man.

  12. @tibbs3435

  20. @kristikinss

i got 60fps in wow but only 18 on d3 i do not get it and none of these tips increased my fps really

  21. @DETERMINOLOGY

This is sad a person that has a gtx 660ti or higher shouldnt have any problems but do..Developers need to stop being lazy

  22. @ZiggyDGaming

Right click properties to change it to read only but that's not the problem, if you rename it it'll make a new file each time you reboot! You have to leave it as d3prefs.txt!

  23. @PsychoDante77

i get BAD stuttering and bad lag the first 15-20 minutes playing diablo 3 but after that its pretty good 55-60 fps max at hardware class 4

  24. @Ranexi

Didn't increase my fps at all.

  25. @okankulturer

dunno why it get fps lag beacuse my pc have always played everything on highest and now Diablo 3 get werid fps lag 🙁

  27. @satishkulal4781

Hi there, have you heard of "Diablo 3 Maxout Turbo" (just google it)? On their website you will find a smart free video demonstrating how to speed run Diablo 3. This made it easier for Danny to speed level in Diablo 3 and consequently max out his character very quickly. I hope it helps you too…

  28. @zcsman7878

    Thanks for this.

  29. @YasasSamurdhi

Hi there, have you considered "D3Max Out Turbo" (do a Google search for it)? There you can watch a smart free video explaining how to speed run Diablo 3. This made it easier for Pete to speed level in Diablo 3 and therefore max out his character super fast. I hope it helps you too.

  30. @ZiggyDGaming

Should just be right click > properties > check read only > apply. I have heard this works for some people, hopefully it does for you too.

  31. @ZiggyDGaming

Hey, I mentioned this in the video because it's a rather common problem. After editing the file you have to change it to read only and that should stop the game from resetting it.

  32. @ZiggyDGaming

If when you open the file after playing the game and it's changed back then change it to read only and the game shouldn't change it.

  33. @madbeard69

should i change D3Prefs to only readonly or D3Prefs readonly?

  34. @ZiggyDGaming

Great stuff. They are only small tweaks but they can make a big difference for people who are borderline unplayable and it's just a nice little performance boost for people on better rigs. I get less stuttering after changing both settings since skill effects don't hog as much memory.

  35. @ZiggyDGaming

I wasn't planning on it but watching my girlfriend, Kripparian and reading about it myself is certainly tempting me. I also like the payment model… hmmm. It might happen, no promises though.

  36. @ImShireh

Ziggy please play Guild Wars 2 and make vids on it plwease.

  37. @ZiggyDGaming

    2:17 trilinear filtering

    3:11 hardware class fix

Sorry about the instructions for finding the file, I had *a lot* of people ask me about it last video so I wanted to cover everything. Thanks for the feedback though.

  38. @gieron666

omg dude u talk so much … about stuff that isnt even important, just show the fix and your done why talk about where to find d3prefs for 5 minutes ?
