How to Find Thrift Savings Plan Account Number

The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is a retirement savings and investment plan for federal employees and members of the uniformed services. It offers individuals the opportunity to save for their retirement by contributing a portion of their income to a tax-advantaged account.

When it comes to managing your TSP account, it is essential to have your account number readily available. This account number serves as a unique identifier for your TSP account and is required for various transactions and inquiries related to your retirement savings. Here are a few methods to find your TSP account number:

1. Check your TSP statement: The easiest way to locate your TSP account number is by referring to your account statement. TSP sends account statements to participants on a quarterly basis, and they contain vital information, including your account number. If you have a physical copy of your statement, you can find the account number printed at the top or bottom of the document. Alternatively, if you receive electronic statements, you can search for keywords like “account number” or “identification number” within the PDF.

2. Contact TSP helpline: If you cannot locate your account statement or need immediate access to your account number, you can reach out to the TSP helpline. The helpline is available Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays, and can provide assistance in retrieving your account number. Call the helpline at 1-877-968-3778 and be prepared to provide relevant personal information to validate your identity.

3. Log in to your TSP online account: If you have already registered for TSP’s online account access, you can retrieve your account number by logging in to the website. Go to the TSP website (www.tsp.gov) and click on the “My Account” tab. Enter your login credentials, which typically include your user ID and password, to access your account. Once logged in, navigate to the account details section, where you should find your TSP account number.

4. Review old correspondence: If you have received any previous correspondence from TSP, such as confirmation letters or statements, your account number may be printed on those documents. Check your files, emails, or any physical mail you have received from TSP to locate your account number. TSP often includes the account number for reference purposes.

Remember, never share your TSP account number with anyone unless you are certain of their legitimacy. Safeguarding this information helps protect your retirement savings from potential threats such as fraud or identity theft. Be cautious and exercise due diligence when sharing personal and financial data.

Finding your TSP account number is crucial for managing your retirement savings effectively. By utilizing the methods mentioned above, you can easily locate your account number, ensuring seamless access and control over your TSP account. Take a proactive approach in keeping your account number secure and handy, and you’ll be well-equipped to navigate your TSP retirement journey.

my account number is not listed on my annual account statement and it is not displayed on my profile in my account on tsp website. This video is not helpful at all. She doesn't even show you where we should be able to find it, she just tells you, and it is not there…. what a horrible new system

My mailed statements for my TSP account from past TSA employment do not show my account number, unless it was changed. Online, I also cannot find it. There is no longer a My Accounts tab, but I looked all other the site in my account value information and profile/personal information. I don't keep all my past statements, so I don't know when the 13-digit account number stopped showing or was converted, but I was able to find it clearly on a 2018 statement, fortunately for my needs. The other account value, plan type, and my personal information are all correct on the web site.
