Federal Disability Retirement is a benefit provided to federal employees who are unable to continue working due to a disability. It is available to employees of the federal government, including those who work for the United States Postal Service (USPS), the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). To be eligible for Federal Disability Retirement, an employee must have a disability that is expected to last at least one year and must be unable to perform their job duties due to the disability.

To apply for Federal Disability Retirement, an employee must submit an application to the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). The application must include medical documentation of the disability and a statement from the employee’s doctor confirming that the disability is expected to last for at least one year. The employee must also provide a statement of their employment history, a statement of their current salary, and any other relevant documents.

Once the application is submitted, OPM will review the application and make a decision on whether or not the employee is eligible for Federal Disability Retirement. If approved, the employee will receive a monthly benefit based on their salary and years of service. The benefit will be paid until the employee is able to return to work or until the disability is no longer expected to last for at least one year.

I just recently re-opened my case for an injury that I had sustained several years while on the job. I also started receiving physical because of the numbness of both my arms and scalp along with stiffness of my neck and upper back. I have contacted Harris Federal in the past but was terrified of following through mostly because of the 60% – 40% loss of wages and not being sure if I would receive any offset from SSI. I have started seeing a therapist to help build my case. I have 28yrs of federal and was counting on retiring with my MRA 57 which would be in 5yrs. I'm looking forward for some advice.
