    (total current retirement assets / goal assets such as 25 x expenses) * 5 years as a percent of your goal assets = % fixed income. This will glide path to your goal as your portfolio grows. This is what I use.

    Don't speculate (see: gamble) on individual stocks to begin with. Be humble enough to buy 'boring" index funds like VTI and VXUS and hold. Ego is the enemy.
