I’ve been binge watching ur content! absolutely love it! I started my own budgeting journey on YouTube but I’m considering doing a more sit down videos on topics…ur channel inspires me so much! Thank u!

VTSAX is a great choice, you could have a really solid portfolio with just VTSAX alone honestly. Then if you ever want a little more diversification later down the road I’d recommend looking to add a bond and potentially an international fund

  3. Jose Arroyo

Vanguard, Fidelity and Charles Schwab are supposed to be pretty good. Lowest fees of course is vanguard i have read.

  4. PokeKing

How long did it take for your holdings to transfer over to vanguard?

  5. denny oviedo

I used to have an IRA with State Farm, that was horrible , I had over 3000 , dollars , they just Returned 600 dollars, after 4 months calling them . No more I will learn to do my stuff myself.
Thanks for video , good lock with you financial freedom.

You are doing great! Keep up the good work!! You will be very happy with your decisions to save and invest one day. Just keep at it!

Vanguard has a $25 yearly fee until you have invested $10k in each fund.

I think Vanguard should get rid of the transaction fee $75.00 and the minimum investment $3000, then it will be more in tune with Fidelity which offers $0.00 transaction fee and $0.00 minimun to invest.

If you would like to know more here are a few recommendations:

    1) The Little Book of Common Sense Investing by John C. Bogle
    2) Winning the Loser's Game by Charles D. Ellis
    3) A Random Walk Down Wall Street by Burton G. Malkiel

I find it heartwarming when a perfectly ordinary person finds their way down the right paths of investing. Keep it up.

Beautiful woman who is financially intelligent.. I gotta subscribe

  11. Drool Alot

I just looked up the fee for state farm.. 5.7%. That's highway robbery and should be illegal

  12. Drool Alot

State farm?! Your dad screwed you over big time with that TERRIBLE advice

  13. Katsuya89

Vanguard is a great choice. Jack Bogle, the creator of Vanguard created the index fund, and did more for the regular investor than anyone else in the stock market business.

I made a similar mistake in that I went through my bank, Fifth Thrid. It’s technically called Fifth third securities. They make it extremely hard to read the statements. I hope things work out for you, happy retiring.

I think I’m in the same boat with my current Roth IRA. My mom helped me set it up when I was 17 and I didn’t understand much of it. I’ve been digging deeper into it now and believe I am paying some of my money to my agent as well and can’t see much online as to what I’m actually investing into. Thank you for your video, I believe it’s time for me to change mine over.

Good for you! That is awesome!!

Were kinda alike, I too opened a roth with statefarm i was like 21 yrs old…listened to my mother & opened it through there, now i’m gonna change it to fidelity. Now i know more about investments, back then didn’t really know much. Very true of going to statefarm then go through rbc.

I really feel for you. Glad you got it together now. And your very cute..

  19. William Levi

I love Schwab. No load index funds. No minimum to buy into their index funds. Can invest as little as a dollar yo. Vanguard is great as well but 3000 minimum is crazy..

  20. C J

So question, why do people invest through those type of companies? If they charge fees and essentially get a cut.

  21. jonny chavesi

As you know, the market has taken a low, that’s what the market does…Do not stress, it always recovers…In fact, this is actually a time to contribute when the price / shares are low…You get more shares for your dollar, more shares working for you when the market rebounds, it’s like buying something for sale, something at a discount…Look at it as if your positioning yourself for generous returns when the market recovers…During the 1929 crash, the likes of J. Paul Getty, Joe Kennedy, saw the crash as an opportunity to invest, (diversification) …The market was cheap, when things got on their feet, they were more than ok

  22. jonny chavesi

It’s a start, start small…Your on your way…Vanguard App is great, web site is great & not complicated…Customer service is good…Good for you & your senior years

  23. Ian Wilson

Vanguard is great, I use TD ameritrade, almost went with vanguard though. Then i use T rowe price funds, because I l prefer active management. But you cannot beat vanguard for their simple index funds and the simple core portfolios you can build. Vanguard it great.

A year ago I asked the same question about educating myself in investing for retirement. I finally found a book that enlightened me on the topic. The four pillars of investing by Dr. William J Bernstein. Also The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins is a must read. Your current investment plan sounds good, since your young; so I wouldn't rush to implement any investment changes based on what a book suggest. Just continue educating yourself till you have an understanding of the investing for retirement concepts. Your starting at a great point in your life! Good luck!

  25. papijelly

If I haven’t check out the index card. It’s a book on investing and it’s amazing and simple and small and you can likely read it or listen to the audio book in less dam a week .

  26. ColonelFusion

Thanks for the video. I found you by searching "vanguard vs schwab roth ira" and I guess I'm trying to convince myself to go Charles Schwab.. I like they give you a checking account too. But I'm still learning about like… can I buy VTSAX on Charles Schwab. Should I get Vanguard to buy VTSAX then transfer it to my Schwab roth IRA?

  27. Wallet Invest

Good job! Vanguard is the best! I only have VTSAX under my Roth IRA account.. you dont need more than that.. gotta make sure to max it to 6k every year and thats it

  28. :-

I am a super beginner and just put 3k in an index fund, do I just leave it alone now? What’s my next step? Ugh!!

  29. Sean Lei on Investing

Just uploaded a vanguard roth ira video and youtube recommended me this. I also started a Vanguard roth by transferring (from TD Ameritrade). Great video keep it up!

If you’d like to learn more about index funds I recommend reading ‘Common Sense on Mutual Funds’ & ‘The Clash of Cultures’ both are by John C. Bogle who is the founder of Vanguard. These books will get you better acquainted w/ the subject and will better your understanding as it did for me. Think it’s a great step that you’ve taken so early on !

  31. Denny Hayes

Next, you should get a Robinhood account and starting buy stocks. Its a great time to enter the market now while prices are low. Also I recently opened a Vanguard Roth IRA too, I chose VTI over VTSAX though.

  32. Kimbopolo

Good for you. God only knows what kind of fees you were paying to SF and RBC. Vanguard also has some good investor education tools.

  33. MrKahov

I think you were paying that broker.

If you want a simple explanation I would recommend Reading Tony Robbins – Money Master the game.

  34. Emma Arsenault

I'm so glad you shared your experience with this! I am planning to open a Roth IRA soon, and I will definitely take this into consideration and look into Vanguard!
