The Supreme Court of India has recently given an important order for the higher pension scheme for retired employees under the Employees’ Pension Scheme, 1995 (EPS-95). This order is expected to bring relief to lakhs of retired employees who have been fighting for a better pension scheme for a long time.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) had notified the EPS-95 in 1995 for providing pension benefits to the employees who are members of the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF). However, the EPS-95 scheme had a clause in which the pension amount was calculated on the basis of the average salary of the employee for the last 12 months of their service. This meant that the pension amount was quite low for most of the employees since their salaries increased over the years.

The recent Supreme Court order has made the pension calculation formula more favourable for the employees. The court has directed that the pension amount be calculated on the basis of the average salary of the employee for the last 60 months of their service instead of the last 12 months. This is expected to result in a significant increase in the pension amount for many retired employees.

The EPFO has already started implementing the higher pension scheme as per the Supreme Court order. The EPFO has also launched a pension calculation tool on its official website to help the retired employees understand their entitlements under the new scheme.

The higher pension scheme is a welcome move for the retired employees who have been struggling to make ends meet with the meagre pension amounts received under the old scheme. With the new pension calculation formula, they can hope for a better life in their retirement years.

The Supreme Court order for higher pension scheme will now provide improved financial security to the employees who have worked tirelessly for the nation. The new scheme will help retirees live a comfortable and better life free from financial stress. It will be a true tribute to their tireless contribution to nation building.

Dear Sir – Please be informed that I have worked in two(2) private companies where the companies are deducting money from my salary for contribution to PF and Pension fund. The first company(working for 28 years) is keeping the PF amount in an authorized trusty board and keeping pension in EPFO under EPS scheme. The second company(working for 1 year) is keeping entire amount in EPFO. I have withdrawn the entire PF amount from first company trusty board. What need to be done for getting higher pension? Thanks & Regards. Amit Kumar Sarkar,Kolkata.
