Many Filipino workers rely on the Social Security System (SSS) for their retirement benefits to ensure financial stability in their golden years. But how much can one expect to receive from their SSS retirement benefits?

The amount that a member can receive upon retirement from SSS is dependent on several factors such as the member’s total contribution, their number of years in service, and their salary bracket. SSS uses a formula to calculate the monthly pension that a retiree will receive, which takes into account the member’s average monthly salary credit (AMSC) and their credited years of service.

To calculate the monthly pension, the total number of credited years of service is multiplied by 2.5% of the AMSC plus 20% of the AMSC for the years exceeding ten. The resulting amount is the monthly pension that the retiree will receive. The minimum monthly pension that can be received is Php 2,000 while the maximum is Php 20,000.

For example, if a member has an AMSC of Php 20,000 and 20 years of credited service, their monthly pension would be calculated as follows:

(20 years x 2.5% of Php 20,000) + (10 years x 20% of Php 20,000) = Php 10,000 + Php 40,000 = Php 50,000

Therefore, this retiree would receive a monthly pension of Php 50,000 from SSS.

It’s important for members to keep track of their contributions and make sure that they have paid enough to qualify for the maximum pension amount. Additionally, members can increase their pension amount by continuing to contribute to SSS even after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.

Overall, the amount that one can receive from SSS retirement benefits varies depending on their individual circumstances and contributions. It is crucial for workers to plan accordingly and secure their financial future by keeping track of their SSS contributions and ensuring that they will receive a comfortable pension upon retirement.
